ACTION purchased these tarpaulins for the fire victims in Navotas near the Fish Port in May. When we provided the tarps they gave shelter from the very hot sun and now they keep the families somewhat dry in rainy season. All of the families are involved in the fishing industry as fishermen or by unloading the huge fishing vessels when they're in port at night.
Pastor Mamaril of Christian Challenge Church, one of our partners in ministry to street children and this relief response, told me today that as a result of extending assistance to the fire victims about 35-40 children, youth and adults are now regularly attending Sunday worship services and are asking for services closer to their area. Two weeks ago ACTION gave Christian Challenge Church a large tarp for a simple worship center which is being built near the fire zone and the first service should be this Sunday.
Isaiah 61:3 (NASB) says: "To grant those who mourn in Zion, giving them a garland instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the mantle of praise instead of a spirit of fainting. So they will be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified." Amen.
