Ministering in Word and deed to typhoon Hayian victims

This week ACTION's Street Impact Team has been in the Hayian devestated province of Eastern Samar. We conducted two gospel centered two-day fun and food filled Vacation Bible Schools at elementary schools for traumatized children with the whole hearted participation of teachers, parents, community leaders and nearby churches. The Tacloban City, Leyte based team of Child Evangelism Fellowship did the teaching with many hands-on activities. The first VBS had 77 grads and the second 76 who will be followed-up by the participating churches with Bible based "values formation" classes. Now we're lining up feeding programs using Feed My Starving Children food with three elementary schools and a day care center in cooperation with churches.

Today SITeam is meeting with 20 pastors in Tacloban City to learn about the situation of street kids in their city, who's doing what when and where in ministering to them and if/how SITeam can assist. Monday we turn over a full curriculum of text books to two elementary schools in Leyte province which were wiped out by Hayian. Both schools have agreed to allow nearby pastors teach Bible based "values formation" when classes resume in June. Tuesday the team is back in Manila for a well deserved rest. We're mobilizing communities to minister to people with the soul satisfying Word of God with one hand and compassionate deeds with the other.
