Feeding Hungry Kids

Over the past few weeks I've written about street kids that we've visited and are ministering to. These kids are abused, neglected, abandoned and invisible to the public unless one of them picks a pocket, snatches a cell phone or pulls on your sleeve and dusts off your shoes looking for a little food money. They sleep in unused lots behind buildings during the day so they're out working the public and looking through garbage bins for food at night when the restaurants close.

Next week we're planning to start three, possibly four, new six month feeding programs for street kids in partnership with churches we've worked with for some time. In Dasmarinas we're partnering with Pastors Benny and Mel who first noticed about 30 kids around two months ago after seminary class one evening. They started befriending the kids and giving them bread then eventually contacted ACTION about the possibility of us helping them develop a ministry for the kids. We're not able to say no to hungry kids and pastors who are willing to serve sacrificially so we're gladly joining them and trusting the Lord for the funds to do so.

You'll see a fund raising letter Doug Nichols wrote this week along with a response slip talking about our Fish and Bread ministry on the Link page. If you'd like to partner with us in feeding hungry street children along with befriending them with the love of Jesus fill it out and send your gift to the ACTION office nearest you. If you can't give a gift pray for the kids and the church workers because this is spiritual warfare. Our ultimate goal is to get the kids off the streets by leading each one to faith in Christ, connecting them to the churches ministering to them, reconciling them to their families if they have one and then minister to the entire family. Pray for the congregations so they'll be fully prepared to minister to the kids and their families by opening up the front door of the church allowing them into their fellowship with Christ and each other. This is easier said than done.

I love reading about our compassionate heavenly Father in Psalm 146 Who is described as "giving food to the hungry" among other ways of demonstrating His involvement with the weak and vulnerable people of our societies. Praise Him for His compassionate response to each of us!
