Seeing invisible kids and being shadowed by someone with the "right stuff"

Last Sunday evening we had another "post-Christmas" party for 30
scavenger kids and some of their parents. Most where invited by
"Moy-Moy" a 9 year old who hard a hard time keeping his short pants
up because the elastic is worn out. He's a potential Andrew like the
disciple who brought his brother Peter to Jesus. (John 1:35-42) I'm
praising the Lord that He's opening the "eyes" of churches to see and
minister to scavenger people who generally are invisible to society.
A scavenger's typical work day is 5pm-3am 7 days a week roaming city
streets on a pedi-cab earning perhaps $3 minus the $1 rent for their
pedi-cab.

They were asked what they did for Christmas and they said "trabaho"
(work) and when asked if anyone prepared special food for them
Christmas day they responded "no one it's only now we're eating
Christmas food". Each one received 5 kilos of rice, a large bag of
goodies and ate a large meal with a soft drink in a can which is very
special. They'll be followed up Wednesday evenings by Camp Aguinaldo
Church with Pastor Lino leading the work who's a former street boy
himself.

The last couple days, Brian a young Bible school graduate from
Conneticut, has been shadowing me because he's seeking the Lord's
will as to his role in ministering to Filipino street kids. His aunt
and uncle, who've served here as missionaries for 30 years, referred
Brian to me and before I met him he had studied our web site and knew
much about our work. Brian has been coming to the Philippines to work
with his aunt and uncle in Bible camp ministry since '04 during the
summer and now he want's to hunker in as long haul missionary. His
home church has sent here for 6 months to serve with us and other
ministries.

Sometimes someone will say to another as an expression of
servant-hood "I'ld be glad to carry your bags". Well Brian did just
that for me yesterday. He guarded and carried my heavy bag for
several hours while I was ministering to hungry kids in a very
crowded church in a congested squatter community. Brian's got the
"right stuff" to be a missionary. I must say that being with Brian
was very refreshing for me because he's hungry for God, understands
that God's Kingdom is global and He has a heart for the poor and
oppressed. This is very rare for a young person today especially from
North America. Pray for Brian and me please as we walk together over
the next several weeks.
