Dasmarinas and Silang. Everyone is having a good time playing, eating
lots of good food, singing, sports, studying the Bible and making new
friends. The messages are Bible saturated, straight to the point and
I sensed the Holy Spirit's work among us. The message of hope through
Jesus Christ and His Gospel is being taught and proclaimed clearly
through both word and deed. It's also a joy to see the seven
participating churches from the two towns working together and making
plans for future ministry together with their campers.
What gives me the greatest joy though is to see lots of former street
kids who attended camp in the past who are now serving as junior
counselors and helpers in the kitchen. The credit for their
transformation goes to the dedicated follow-up efforts of the kids'
recruiting churches and ACTION's Honest Hands ministry with the glory
going to God.
Brian, my shadow from Conneticut, is doing well also. He lead
exercises, mixed with both staff and campers, eat the food, lead
staff devotions last night and got to camp via public transportation
on his own which was his first time. He's a learner, a gamer and has
the right stuff to be an ATION missionary among street kids.
I needed to return to Manila early because today is our monthly
ACTION team meeting which I'm responsible for. We'll have several
guests, a power point presentation from Carmen Salacsacan who serves
with ACTION in Mexico, and a send-off for Mike and Becky Watters who
will be serving, Lord willing, with ACTION in either Zambia, Uganda,
Malawi or in ACTION's international office. Mike has served with us
in Manila for 15 years as a church-planter among the poor, discipler
of men and is a good friend. He'll be missed but we're thrilled to
send them off to their their ministry assignment.
Monday Pastor Jun Magalong went home to be with his Savior after a
lingering illness. His wife Ann worked with ACTION for 15 years and
for several years was my personal secretary. She resigned late last
year to care for Jun because he was suffering terribly from his sinus
cancer. Jun died well now he's at rest. This afternoon ACTION will
conduct a memorial service for Pastor Jun and comfort his wife and
two sons Paul and Timothy.
