Monday and Tuesday next week the Street Impact Team is sponsoring a workshop to teach the basic principles of networking, implementing a child protection policy and formulating ministry plans as local clusters of churches and agencies around Metro Manila. We'll also have time for prayer, devotions from the Word of God and fellowship. We're expecting 50+ pastors and agency leaders so it should a good time of fellowship and learning together.
Yesterday we had our initial planning meeting with several pastors for our August 10 sportsfest for street kids and out-of-school youth from Quezon City. The idea is this fun day of food, basketball,volleyball, badminton and other types of games will bond the kids, pastors and workers in preparation for our August 14-16 camp which everyone will attend. Boy the old athlete and coach in me comes out fast!
The past couple days we've had heavy continuos rain in Metro Manila with snarled traffic and flooding which happens each rainy season. I'm concerned about and praying for our many many friends who live along flood prone creeks and rivers, around the perimeter of dumps and on the streets. Several of these folks are lovely gracious brethren in Christ. Yesterday as I went around the city I wore out so what is life like for those who live in mud and filthy flood water while in a weakened physical condition due to malnutrition and the heavy burdens of extreme poverty? I'm not laying a guilt trip on anyone but walking in another's worn-out slippers if they have them.
