Monday the Street Impact Team (SITeam) taught a room full of pastors and workers how we involve parents, community leaders, the Departments of Health, Social Welfare and Development and at some sites Education to feed 60-80 malnourished kids all under the oversight of a church. Many people showed strong interest but we'll see how many follow through because this type of feeding program is labor intensive and costs a church roughly $5 per feeding for added ingredients three times a week for six months. However the churches that are doing this are harvesting the fruit of good community relations, the respect of officials and many are coming to faith in Christ and regularly attending worship services which adds life to their congregations. Presently we have 41 sites.
SITeam is using food from Feed My Starving Children from Minnesota and Gleaners from Ontario, providing funds churches to provide rice and toppings and we're looking into providing bread, fruit and juice to kids on the streets. In addition we're planning to provide supplemental rice for a minimum of 100 families currently staying in Internally Displaced People camps in Compostela Valley due to typhoon Bopha/Pablo so SITeam leads by doing not just teaching.
