DVBSs and mid-term elections: working for self or others?

This week in Baseco, a huge slum in Tondo, Manila, we participated in two wonderful Daily Vacation Bible Schools and today we graduated 223 kids of various ages. Child Evangelism Fellowship, Support a Child, Save a Future Ministry, Gods Tabernacle Church, World Compassion Ministry, local government leaders, the Armed Forces of the Philippines and several moms also participated to make these schools a blessing to participating families and the surrounding community. Each morning the kids were fed milk and biscuits and for lunch a hearty meal made according Filipino recipes of Feed My Starving Children food. The school supplies used for arts and crafts were sent to us by friends in California and a children's Sunday School class in Minnesota and Mission-to-Children based in the US and Canada sponsored the schools. Unity was on display as people worked together selflessly in this fractured community. The seeds of the Word of God were planted in many hearts and God only knows what the grads will become. Perhaps some will become God and nation loving missionaries, pastors, teachers, business people, government leaders, loving fathers and mothers and help make the Philippines and our world a better place.

Monday May 13 the Philippines will conduct nationwide mid-term elections. Pray for a safe clean process and that capable people with good character who are for the people and not themselves will win. When elected people work selflessly for others good things happen but when they work to enrich themselves the people they're supposed to be serving groan.
