Today I attended a training put on by a representative of the
International Disaster Response Network which was very good. We
discussed all types of disasters and responses but the major call was
for people in disaster prone areas to prepare for a disaster before
one hits such as fire, earthquake, volcano, flooding or terrorism.
This week it rained hard just about every afternoon and parts of Metro
Manila were submerged so rainy season has started along with our
annual flooding problem. One of the major causes of flooding in Metro
Manila is garbage dumped into our creeks and rivers. Over past few
weeks the government has been cleaning them in preparation for rainy
season and has hauled away, at last count, 169 large truck loads of
garbage so far. When will we learn that our refuse should go in cans
not rivers and creeks?!
Next Tuesday-Thursday we have a camp for up to 50 street kids and as
of now we have 41 campers recruited by five churches and two para-
church ministries. We're praying and searching for nine more kids so
join us in prayer please. Child Evangelism Fellowship staff will be
the main teachers and we'll use their Vacation Bible School material
so this will be a very hands-on method of teaching the kids about
Jesus Christ. Pray many will turn from sin to the Savior.
