One out of 1000s but it makes a huge difference for Joshua

Two weeks ago when our team was giving food and flip-flops to street
kids a street vendor approached us and asked for help in caring for
her 9 and 7 year-old nephews Julian and Joshua. The vendor, whom we've
known for years, is the sister of the boy's father and their mother
left them with the vendor. She's unable to care for Julian and Joshua,
who are running the streets sniffing glue, because she has nine kids
of her own and can't adequately care for them on her very meager
income. Our social worker and a worker from a local church found the
father who's a drunk and lives on the streets and we learned the
mother is with another man in another part of Metro Manila. We also
learned that Julian and Joshua have a 14 year-old brother Alvin who's
no where to be found. To make the story short we worked out a
placement with a long-time ministry partner for the two boys and
brought them to their home on Thursday but only Joshua wanted to stay.
Julian backed out while there because he's brain-washed by his father
and older gang mates to earn money for them. With the 1000s of street
kids in Metro Manila it's easy to think we're not making much of a
difference when we get one child off the streets but when I sit back
and think about it makes a huge difference to Joshua. Pray for Julian
that he'll want to join Joshua and that we'll find Alvin and be able
to help him too.
