Real Christian Fellowship Church & honoring Mavis Orton

Wednesday we visited Pastor Arnold, his wife and Buhay at the Real Christian Fellowship Church (RCFC) in Barangay Capalong, Real, Quezon. We helped start this church years ago through disaster response work after the area was hammered by a super typhoon. We remember well the sorrow caused by many deaths, injuries and lots of damage as a result of mudslides, strong winds and torrential rain. At that time there was no Christ-worshipping bible teaching church in the area but now RCFC averages 50 worshippers, just finished a Feed My Starving Children feeding for kids which created much goodwill among parents and local officials and that afternoon Pastor Arnold was starting a bible in a nearby home. God's ways are mysterious.

Yesterday our team had a going away party to honor Mavis Orton who has faithfully served with ACTION Philippines for 28 years. She founded the Shalom Birthing Clinic and will leave it in the very capable hands of her coworkers. Mavis returns to England in early September and will be missed by everyone. She leaves an example of selfless service for us to follow.
