Yesterday's evangelistic party in Baseco was a wonderful example of the Filipino cultural value of bayanihan or a community coming together to help one another. We had 250+ kids, moms, dads, grandparents, local officials, the Armed Forces of the Philippines as well as workers from ACTION, AWANA and two churches pitch in to make this party a lot of fun for everyone. Toys, books, used clothes and Christmas gifts were donated by ACTION, a large international school and a local church, Gallon of Care packs donated by a church in Oregon and hygiene kits by Mission Fest Seattle. Mothers involved in our current six month feeding cooked the meal and cleaned up after the party. Everyone had a great time, the gospel was clearly presented and a community spirit is being built in this very poor community along the sea. The center piece of our ministry in Baseco is our feeding ministry and our recent typhoon relief ministry so we have a lot of friends and good will which is for the gospel's sake. To top it off three pastors who helped with the party are former street kids so my heart is full of joy over the good work the Lord is doing among these dear folks.
